🏆 1983 Fender JV ST57-115 '57 Stratocaster, Top-of-the-Line Japanese Vintage Series, Full Nitro, Early Fujigen, the Holy Grail of Japanese Fenders 🏆
Say it with us: JV. 🙌 In 1982 Fender Japan and Fujigen set out to prove they could build a vintage reissue Strat better than anyone, including the US factory. The JV-serial guitars they built from 1982 to 1984 are now the most collectible Japanese Fenders ever made. This is the real thing: a 1983 ST57-115 '57 Stratocaster from the original Japanese Vintage series. The embossed JV44062 serial is right on the neck plate.
Top of the line. The ST57-115 was the flagship '57 of the JV lineup. The "115" was its 115,000-yen price, the highest in the catalog. It got the best spec Fender Japan offered: a thin, full nitrocellulose finish, a one-piece maple neck with a vintage 7.25" radius, and the small headstock with spaghetti logo. This is the JV everyone wants.
Full nitro, real mojo. Because it's full nitro, it has aged exactly like a real '50s Strat. 😍 The 2-tone sunburst has mellowed and ambered, the neck has a gorgeous honey glow, and there's honest player wear on the back, edge chips and fine checking. It breathes, it resonates, and it looks the part (all pictured).
Featherweight. At just 7 lbs 6.8 oz it's light, lively and resonant. You can feel it ring against your body before you even plug in.
Plays like butter. Like every guitar from The Guitar Dude, it's been professionally set up and dialed in. The neck measures .85" at the 1st fret and .92" at the 12th with a vintage 7.25" radius. The action is low, the intonation is spot on, and it plays like a broken-in vintage Strat should.
🔥 Upgraded with Raw Vintage Handwound USA Pickups 🔥
This JV has already been loaded with a set of Raw Vintage handwound Strat single-coils, handcrafted in California, USA (the gold "Raw Vintage – Handcrafted in California USA" labels are right on the bottom of all three, see the inside photo). Raw Vintage is the vintage-correct parts brand players know for their tremolo springs and saddles, and their USA pickups are built with one goal: real '50s/'60s Strat tone. 🎸
Built like the originals. Hand wound and assembled in Southern California with Alnico 5 magnets, Formvar copper coil wire and vintage-style push-back cloth leads, then dipped in layers of lacquer and wax. No shortcuts, no modern gimmicks.
Why players love them. A full, open sound with a sweet, spanky high end, firm lows, and complex mids with a punchy attack. Raw Vintage describes the tone as "meaty midrange and creamy vintage tones that come as close to the original as anything." Put that in a featherweight, full-nitro JV and you get the real deal: glassy, chimey, quacky in 2 and 4, and alive under your fingers. 😍
The specs. Raw Vintage's USA Strat sets are the RV-50 ('50s wind, about 5.4K per pickup) and the RV-60 (hotter '60s wind, about 6.1K neck and middle, 6.6K bridge). Per Raw Vintage's published specs, the middle pickup in both sets is reverse wound / reverse polarity (RWRP), so positions 2 and 4 are hum-cancelling. We haven't confirmed which of the two sets this is, so we're calling it what we know for sure: a Raw Vintage handwound USA Strat set.
Serious value. A new Raw Vintage USA Strat set sells for about $331 today, and that upgrade is already installed, wired and dialed in. 💰
Collectibility. Clean JVs keep climbing in value, and the top-spec ST57-115 is the one collectors hunt for. Early Fujigen woodwork, fit and finish from the very first years of Fender Japan. If you know, you know.
Honest condition. The pickups have been upgraded to an aftermarket Raw Vintage USA handwound set (see the inside photo and the pickup section above); they are not the original Fender Japan pickups. Everything else is as pictured. There's real player wear: finish worn through on the back near the lower bout, edge chips and dings, a scratched neck plate, and aged plastics. This is a player-grade vintage JV with tons of character, priced and described honestly.

Our Guarantee
We stand behind every guitar we sell. "Good enough" is never good enough. Every instrument is inspected, set up, and tested by multiple people immediately before shipping. We deliver the highest standard of quality and have built a reputation as a three-time NAMM Top 100 Dealer since 2009. The Dude Abides.
Neck & Setup (unless otherwise noted)
- Neck is perfectly straight with no truss rod issues.
- Intonation is spot-on.
- Professionally set up with low action and new American-made strings.
- All frets are dressed, leveled, crowned (if needed), and polished to shine like new, with no divots.
Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy
We offer a 7-day return policy. However:
- You must notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described (for example, you ordered red and got white, or a Telecaster instead of a Les Paul).
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described. Please note that a 10% restocking fee applies to orders that have been purchased and paid for and have been off the market for 24 hours or more, even if they have not been shipped or picked up by the carrier, because we perform a final setup and change the strings as soon as an order is placed and paid for. NO EXCEPTIONS.
We do our best to honestly describe and photograph every guitar and most of the noticeable imperfections. That said, we are human, and something very small can be overlooked. If tiny marks, dings, or super fine scratches (normal wear) bother you, please don't buy.
We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document its exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments to a setup (for example, correcting a slight buzz or a truss rod tweak) are normal after shipping, due to carrier mishandling and climate and atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute "significantly not as described." Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised, or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small, family-owned and family-run business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time, money, and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post-purchase haggling, and there are no returns without restocking fees and no partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, odors/smells, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs; we do not.
Payment, Shipping & International Duties
- All items can be shipped internationally. The buyer is fully responsible for all import duties, taxes, and customs fees.
- We accept PayPal, PayPal Credit, Affirm, and other major payment methods.
- Most U.S. shipments are sent via UPS or FedEx with full insurance, tracking, and signature confirmation. All packages are professionally packed for maximum protection.
International Shipping Note
International shipping prices shown are for most countries; certain countries have higher costs. We try to avoid USPS and mostly ship UPS, but in certain situations USPS is the only available or reasonable carrier. Express services (UPS, DHL, FedEx) are always available. We can't undervalue merchandise, as it could not be properly insured. If you would like to discuss different options, contact us by email or phone for a personalized quote.
Thank you for considering The Guitar Dude. We look forward to earning your business and delivering a guitar that exceeds your expectations. Contact us anytime for questions, consignment inquiries, layaway details, or a personalized shipping quote.
