Here at the Dude's house of tone, we offer this brilliant and captivating Les Paul Custom. Carefully crafted by the fine luthiers of the world renowned Fuji-Gen factory in Japan. TastefulIy enhanced with witch-hat knobs and matching black plastics, this killer also features a long neck tenon making it a proper '68 Les Paul Custom tribute. There is a distinct flavor that is a true delight imbued in the Epiphone line produced in Japan, and this interesting piece is far from the exception. This is a true player guitar, in pretty sweet pre-lowned condition. It has a few light scratches and small dings that tell a story and ad to the vintage vibe, generally this is a sign that an instrument is instilled with deep vibe and mojo, and this one is indeed that. Perfectly weighted and well balanced are the first impressions, and when your hand reaches the fretboard the next impression is that this girl has got it. Unplugged she displays characteristic woody timbre and clean, resonant twang that transfers tremendously when she is plugged in. Hooked up to an amp this ebony queen truly comes to life and really packs the nuanced grind and authoritative tone that makes the Custom the quintessential electric guitar sound of our times. The guitar sets up to a tee with a straight and clean neck, and well functioning hardware. Playability is outta sight with crisp, buttery action and smooth, accurate feel making this little lady hard to put down. The guitar has a nice, tightly grained rosewood board, and clean frets, proper functioning machines that hold tune perfectly, and clean saddles that provide precise intonation. This is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with a great piece that is easy on your hands, eyes, and bank account too. She's a real deal, all around fantastic and sweet guitar, guaranteed to make one lucky owner feel like a real winner....only at The Guitar Dude.
This 1999 Epiphone Les Paul Custom Elite (MIJ, by FujiGen) featured high-quality construction with a maple top, mahogany body, long neck tenon, and often came with upgraded electronics (sometimes aftermarket PAF-style pickups), aiming for vintage Gibson specs with a '59 (medium C) neck profile, set neck, and typically gold hardware, representing a pre-Elitist era of premium Japanese manufacturing before the official Elitist line launched, making them sought-after for their build quality. Here are the typical specifications for these excellent Japanese-made models:
Construction & Body
- Body: Mahogany with a Maple Top (often a full, plain top).
- Neck: Mahogany, set-neck construction.
- Neck Joint: Long Neck Tenon (for enhanced sustain).
- Headstock: Open Book style on some early models.
- Finish: Likely a gloss finish (e.g., Black Beauty, Cherry Sunburst, etc.).
Neck & Fretboard
- Neck Profile: Varies, often a '59 (Medium C)
- Fretboard: Rosewood (common for Les Pauls).
- Frets: Quality, often dressed/leveled on professional setups.
Hardware & Electronics
- Pickups: Often equipped with higher-quality Epiphone humbuckers with higher outputs than standard models.
- Bridge/Tailpiece: Tune-O-Matic bridge with Stopbar tailpiece, typically gold-plated.
- Tuners: Gold-plated, likely vintage-style.
- Controls: Standard Les Paul 2 Volume, 2 Tone, 3-way Toggle.
Key Features
- Origin: Made in Japan (MIJ) at the highly regarded FujiGen factory.
- Era: A pre-Elitist model, representing the peak of regular production Epiphone quality before the Elitist line began, making them very desirable.
These guitars were known for punching well above their weight class in terms of quality and playability, often rivaling more expensive instruments of the time.

We stand behind every guitar we sell. “Good enough” is never good enough. Every instrument is inspected, set up, and tested by multiple people immediately before shipping. We deliver the highest standard of quality and have built a reputation as a three-time NAMM Top 100 Dealer since 2009. The Dude Abides.
Neck & Setup - (unless otherwise noted)
- Neck is perfectly straight with no truss-rod issues.
- Intonation is spot-on.
- Professionally set up with low action and new American-made strings.
- All frets are dressed, leveled, crowned (if needed), and all frets on all guitars are polished to shine like new with no divots.
Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy
We follow Reverb’s 7-day return policy. However:
- You must notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described.
We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small family owned and run business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time, money and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling or partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs—we do not.
