🔥 MEET THE REAL WORKHORSE — A 2003 GIBSON J-45 WITH MILES ON IT AND MAGIC IN THE TONE 🔥
This is no pristine museum piece. This is a 2003 Gibson J-45 that’s been played hard, loved harder, and is ready for its next chapter. Covered in honest playwear but with no cracks or repairs — just cool finish checking, light dings, dents, and scratches — plus a small area of lacquer reaction on the back, this guitar has the lived-in look that only comes from years of real music-making. And here’s the best part: it’s been professionally set up and dialed in, and it sounds and plays absolutely incredible.
Cool looks. Amazing tone. Wonderful playability. Studio-ready. Stage-ready. All without breaking the bank.
The Classic Specs That Built a Legend
Gibson’s iconic round-shoulder dreadnought — the original “Workhorse” — built in Bozeman with the timeless recipe:
• Top: Solid Sitka spruce
• Back & Sides: Solid mahogany
• Bracing: Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing
• Neck: Mahogany with a comfortable, easy-playing profile
• Fingerboard: Rosewood, 12” radius, 20 frets, mother-of-pearl dot inlays
• Scale Length: 24.75”
• Nut Width: Approximately 1.725”
• Finish: Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer (that beautiful checking and character only nitro develops)
• Classic tortoise teardrop pickguard, rosewood bridge, and reliable hardware
This is the exact formula that has backed countless singer-songwriters, studio sessions, and stages for over 80 years.
The Sound
Put simply: this J-45 sings. The solid spruce top and mahogany body deliver that legendary warm, balanced voice — tight, focused bass, rich woody midrange that sits perfectly under a vocal, and clear, articulate highs with plenty of sparkle. The hand-scalloped bracing gives it excellent projection, dynamic range, and headroom. Strum hard and it fills the room without ever getting boomy or harsh. Fingerpick gently and every note blooms with warmth and clarity.
Years of play have opened this guitar up beautifully. It has that open, responsive, slightly compressed “worked-in” character that new guitars take years (or decades) to develop. Perfect for recording — it cuts through a mix without fighting it. Perfect for the stage — it projects and responds to every touch. Pure, classic Gibson J-45 tone with soul.
The Playability
Professionally set up and dialed in for optimal feel and tone. The action is comfortable, the intonation is spot-on, and the neck feels broken-in and inviting. Whether you’re a strummer, fingerstylist, or hybrid player, this guitar gets out of the way and lets you play. The shorter 24.75” scale and comfortable neck profile make it easy on the hands for long sessions, while still delivering that authoritative dreadnought power. It just feels right.
This is the perfect addition for any studio or stage player who wants cool looks, amazing tone, and wonderful playability without spending a fortune on a pristine new instrument. The playwear isn’t damage — it’s character. The small lacquer reaction on the back is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect structure or sound. What you get is a real working Gibson J-45 that already has the vibe most players chase for years.
Grab this one, throw it in the case, and start making records or filling rooms. The Workhorse is ready to work again — and it’s priced for a player, not a collector.

Our Guarantee
We stand behind every guitar we sell. “Good enough” is never good enough. Every instrument is inspected, set up, and tested by multiple people immediately before shipping. We deliver the highest standard of quality and have built a reputation as a three-time NAMM Top 100 Dealer since 2009. The Dude Abides.
Neck & Setup - (unless otherwise noted)
- Neck is perfectly straight with no truss-rod issues.
- Intonation is spot-on.
- Professionally set up with low action and new American-made strings.
- All frets are dressed, leveled, crowned (if needed), and all frets on all guitars are polished to shine like new with no divots.
Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy
We follow Reverb’s 7-day return policy. However:
- You must
notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described. Please note there is a 10% restocking fee on guitar orders that have been purchased and paid for - that have been off the market for 24 hours or more, even if they have not been shipped or picked up by the carrier. We perform a final set up and change strings put when an order is placed and paid for. NO EXCEPTIONS
We do our best to honestly describe and photograph every guitar and most of the noticeable imperfections. That said, we are human, if something very small can be overseen, if tiny marks, dings or super fine scratches (normal wear) bother you, please don't buy.
We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small family owned and run business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time, money and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling, returns without restocking fees or partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs—we do not.
Payment, Shipping & International Duties
- All items can be shipped internationally. Buyer is fully responsible for all import duties, taxes, and customs fees.
- We accept PayPal, PayPal Credit, Affirm, and other major payment methods.
