🔥 GROOVE LIKE A LEGEND: Late ’90s Fender Japan MB98-70SD Mustang Bass Reissue in Killer 3-Tone Sunburst! 🔥

Imagine strapping on a bass that looks like it just rolled out of a ’60s West Coast studio session… but it was built in the golden era of Fender Japan craftsmanship. This is no ordinary short-scale—this is the real-deal CIJ MB98-70SD Mustang Bass reissue, finished in that jaw-dropping three-tone sunburst that makes every stage light pop.

The alder body is lightweight, perfectly balanced, and shaped with those signature offset double-cutaways that hug your ribs like it was custom-carved for you. The sunburst finish is pure vintage magic: a warm amber center exploding into fiery orange before fading into rich mahogany edges. The gloss still shines like it just left the Fujigen factory in the late ’90s. Chrome hardware sparkles against the burst, and every curve screams classic Fender cool.

Under the hood? A bolt-on maple neck with a slim, fast C-profile that feels like butter under your hand. The rosewood fingerboard has 19 medium frets that are crisp and level, pearl dot inlays that glow under the lights, and a 30-inch short scale that makes every note effortless—whether you’re slapping funk grooves, thumping punk riffs, or laying down velvet indie bass lines. No hand cramps, just pure playability.

The heart of this beast is the Seymour Duncan designed authentic vintage-style single-coil Mustang pickup. Passive, raw, and ridiculously responsive: tight, punchy lows that hit you in the chest, snarling mids that cut through any mix, and sparkling highs that sing without ever getting harsh. Roll the master volume and tone knobs and you’ve got an endless palette of tones—from fat ’60s thump to modern indie bite. Plug it into your favorite amp and watch the room light up.

These late-’90s Fender Japan reissues are absolute cult classics. Built to higher standards than many U.S. models of the time, they’re the perfect marriage of vintage soul and bulletproof reliability. This one is clean, well-cared-for, and ready to make music for the next 30 years.

This beauty is in excellent condition for its age. There is a little scratch up by the top horn and minor play wear, but SUPER clean overall.

Whether you’re a collector chasing that perfect short-scale tone or a gigging bassist who wants comfort, looks, and killer sound, this MB-98 is the one.

Don’t let this sunburst beauty slip away. Serious players only—grab it before the next bassist does! 🎸💥

Our Guarantee

We stand behind every guitar we sell. “Good enough” is never good enough. Every instrument is inspected, set up, and tested by multiple people immediately before shipping. We deliver the highest standard of quality and have built a reputation as a three-time NAMM Top 100 Dealer since 2009. The Dude Abides.

Neck & Setup - (unless otherwise noted)

- Neck is perfectly straight with no truss-rod issues.

- Intonation is spot-on.

- Professionally set up with low action and new American-made strings.

- All frets are dressed, leveled, crowned (if needed), and all frets on all guitars are polished to shine like new with no divots.

Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy

We follow Reverb’s 7-day return policy. However:

- You must notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.

- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.

- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described.

We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.

Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.

We are a small business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling or partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs—we do not.

Payment, Shipping & International Duties

- All items can be shipped internationally. Buyer is fully responsible for all import duties, taxes, and customs fees.

- We accept PayPal, PayPal Credit, Affirm, and other major payment methods.

- Most U.S. shipments are sent via UPS or FedEx with full insurance, tracking, and signature confirmation. All packages are professionally packed for maximum protection.

International Shipping Note

International shipping prices shown are for most countries. Certain countries have higher costs. We try and avoid USPS and mostly ship UPS. Express services (UPS, DHL, FedEx) are always available. Contact us for a personalized quote.
