🐦⬛🔥1978–1981 Fernandes MB-90 – Black Neck-Through BC Rich Mockingbird Bass Clone with Full Switch Suite 🐦⬛🔥
Ready to own a piece of Japanese golden-era attitude that looks like it flew straight out of a late-’70s/early-’80s hard-rock stage and still delivers the goods? This ain’t just a bass… it’s a black crow of a weapon ready to scorch the stage.
This stunning all-black Fernandes MB-90 is a high-quality neck-through Mockingbird bass clone that captures the iconic BC Rich silhouette—sharp points, aggressive cutaways, and that unmistakable predatory stance—while packing the versatile Moser-style electronics that make these instruments legendary tone machines. Built with the meticulous Japanese craftsmanship of the period, it features a solid neck-through construction that delivers exceptional sustain, resonance, and upper-fret access, paired with a fast, comfortable neck profile that fills the hand yet stays playable for hours.
The sound arsenal is pure fire. 🔥 Dual DiMarzio-style Precision pickups lay down deep, articulate, punchy low-end with strong response and clarity across the board. Flip through the full suite of switches and you’re in a playground of tones: series/parallel and phase options for thick stacked power or thinner, more aggressive flavors; a 5-way Varitone that sculpts mids and highs into everything from scooped, almost Jazz-Bass-like clarity to mid-focused punch or darker, rounded thump; plus the variable-gain/preamp circuit (powered by the onboard 9V) that lets you push the mids, add grit, or dial in a controlled, nasty edge when you want the bass to cut and snarl. From pure passive thunder to boosted, mid-forward aggression, this thing covers rock, metal, hard rock, and beyond with ease. The vintage DiMarzio-style P’s give you that classic beefy foundation, and the switching multiplies the possibilities so you’re never stuck with just one voice. Light it up and watch the room burn.
Condition is excellent for its age and the sharp-edged style. A few light dents and scratches live primarily on the back (honest player wear from decades of stage and studio life), while the front, edges, and overall presentation remain very nice—points still sharp and clean, finish still striking in that deep black. It has been professionally set up and dialed in for optimal tone and playability: low, smooth action, proper intonation, comfortable relief, and ready to rock right out of the case. Plug it in and it feels alive—resonant, responsive, and inspiring.
This isn’t a modern mass-produced copy. It’s a period Japanese neck-through Mockingbird with the real switching complexity that made the originals so desirable, in classic black, already optimized by a pro tech. Rare, visually commanding, tonally versatile, and stage-ready. A true black crow of a bass that breathes fire.
Don’t just play bass—command the low end with attitude and set the night ablaze. This MB-90 is primed and waiting. Serious inquiries only—ready to ship or pick up and start making noise today. 🔥

Our Guarantee
We stand behind every guitar we sell. “Good enough” is never good enough. Every instrument is inspected, set up, and tested by multiple people immediately before shipping. We deliver the highest standard of quality and have built a reputation as a three-time NAMM Top 100 Dealer since 2009. The Dude Abides.
Neck & Setup - (unless otherwise noted)
- Neck is perfectly straight with no truss-rod issues.
- Intonation is spot-on.
- Professionally set up with low action and new American-made strings.
- All frets are dressed, leveled, crowned (if needed), and all frets on all guitars are polished to shine like new with no divots.
Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy
We follow Reverb’s 7-day return policy. However:
- You must
notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described. Please note there is a 10% restocking fee on guitars that have been purchased and paid for - being off the market for more than 24 hours that have not been shipped or picked up by the carrier. We perform a final set up and change strings put when an order is placed and paid for. NO EXCEPTIONS
We do our best to honestly describe and photograph every guitar and most of the noticeable imperfections. That said, we are human, if something very small can be overseen, if tiny marks, dings or super fine scratches (normal wear) bother you, please don't buy.
We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small family owned and run business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time, money and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling, returns without restocking fees or partial refunds. If minor cosmetic marks, tiny imperfections, or the possibility of a post-shipping setup tweak makes you uncomfortable, please do not buy. Plenty of large retailers offer free trials and can absorb shipping costs—we do not.
