A rare and elegant 1993 Fender Japan ST-65 (ST65-TX) in ultra-scarce Ice Blue Metallic — a true factory special-run / limited-edition model.
Fender Japan focused heavily on the far more common ’57 and ’62 reissues. Genuine ’65-spec instruments like this ST-65 were produced in much smaller numbers, often as non-catalog or special-order pieces. Finding one with factory USA Texas Special pickups and this hard-to-find Ice Blue Metallic finish makes it genuinely uncommon. Over three decades the metallic finish has softened into a subtle greenish tint that gives it a distinctive, aged elegance while still looking cool and sophisticated.
What Makes a ’65 Different from a ’62 💎
The 1965 Stratocaster sits right at the historic transition when Fender was sold to CBS. Key visual and subtle differences include:
• Headstock logo: ’62 models (and most Japanese ST62 reissues) typically wear the delicate, thin “spaghetti” logo. True ’65-spec instruments feature the bolder “transition” logo — thicker gold lettering with a more solid black outline. This logo appeared on the still-small pre-CBS style headstock for only a short window before the larger CBS headstock arrived later in 1965. That combination of small headstock + transition logo is one of the most distinctive and sought-after looks of the mid-’60s.
• Other period details that separate ’65 from earlier ’62-style instruments: pearloid (pearl) fingerboard dots instead of the earlier clay dots, slight changes in pickguard material and plastics, and an overall transitional character that mixes classic pre-CBS feel with the early modern updates of the mid-’60s.
This Japanese ST-65 captures that unique mid-’60s transitional vibe in a way the more plentiful ST62 models simply don’t.

Return Policy, Restocking Fees & No Tire-Kicking Policy
We follow Reverb’s 7-day return policy. However:
- You must
notify us in writing within 3 days of delivery (per tracking) of your intent to return.
- Original shipping and return shipping costs are not refunded unless the guitar is damaged in transit or is significantly not as described.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all returns for any reason other than damage in transit or significantly not as described. Please note there is a 10% restocking fee on guitar orders that have been purchased and paid for - that have been off the market for 24 hours or more, even if they have not been shipped or picked up by the carrier. We perform a final set up and change strings put when an order is placed and paid for. NO EXCEPTIONS
We do our best to honestly describe and photograph every guitar and most of the noticeable imperfections. That said, we are human, if something very small can be overseen, if tiny marks, dings or super fine scratches (normal wear) bother you, please don't buy.
We record demo videos of every guitar before shipping to document exact condition and performance. Additional photos, measurements, or in-hand descriptions are available upon request prior to purchase.
Minor adjustments and tweaks to a set up (for example to correct a slight buzz or truss-rod tweak) are normal after shipping due to carrier mishandling the package, climate & atmospheric changes, especially when moving from South Florida to colder or less humid environments. These slight issues do not constitute “significantly not as described.” Guitars must be returned in the exact same condition as received/advertised or additional repair/restocking fees will apply.
We are a small family owned and run business, not a big-chain retailer. We invest significant time, money and effort into every guitar. This is a NO TIRE-KICKING shop. There is no post purchase haggling, returns without restocking fees or partial refunds.
